Bird Watching

Gower is a bird watchers paradise with such varied habitat
Sea cliffs
Intertidal estuary and salt marsh
Freshwater marshes
Broadleaf and conifer woodland
Farmland interspersed with hedgerows and copses
Open moorland
And lowland heath

A few years ago a couple staying at the campsite  spotted and identified over 50 species of birds  over a period of a weeks stay.

You  may see Ravens, Peregrine Falcon, Fulmars, Kittewakes, Buzzards, a small colony of Choughs,  Jackdaws, Cormorants and several types of Gulls on the cliff tops from Port Eynon to Rhossili.

The exceptionally large tidal range of the Bristol Channel attracts many shoreline birds like the Terns, Sandpipers,  as well as gulls and Waders.

Large areas of open moorland and lowland heath are home to many species  including Finches, Sky larks, Yellow Hammer, and provide good hunting for Owls, Kestrels and  Sparrow Hawks.

Intertidal areas around the Burry Estuary provide extensive feeding grounds for  Oystercatchers, Ducks, Little Egret and many other waders with the Wetlands Centre being  so close you never know what may turn up.

The extensive woodland, hedgerow and farm land provides ideal habitat for Lesser Spotted,Greater Spotted and Green Woodpeckers,  together with  Siskins, Warblers, Spotted Flycatchers, Kingfishers and Heron in the streams, and the usual array of Robin, Wren, Blackbirds, Thrushes  etc.
