Beaches - Gower Britians first area of outstanding natural beauty
Rhossiliis the most westerly of the Gower beaches taking the full brunt of the Atlantic swells and providing one of the best surfing bays on the peninsula., and being renown for its miles of golden sands.
The nearby sandy coves ofMewsladeandFall Bayare ever popular with both visitors and locals alike, both accessed via footpath and totally un-commercialised and rarely if ever crowded.
Ramsgrove a rocky cove ( a pebble beach) has myriad’s of rockpools when the tide is out, accessed through the fields and hidden away in a secluded valley. Even in the peak of summer you can have the place to yourselves.
Mewsladeis accessible from the campsite via a footpath across the fields, a walk of about 20 minutes or so and well worth the effort a quiet undeveloped beach with lots of sand and rock pools when the tide is out and a real suntrap. Mewslade has a carparking area at nearby Pitton Farm some half mile from the beach, and like its neighbours Fall Bay andRamsgroveare only accessible on foot.
Port-Eynon ( pronounced Port- eye non) together with adjoiningHortonis one of Gower’s more popular beaches mainly due to easier access( about 10 minutes in the car or local bus service) the village being next to the beach with plenty of parking. Village amenities include, café’s a couple of chip shops, take- aways, gift and souvenir shops the Ship Inn and camping and caravan sites.
The beach is favoured by wind surfers and is home to a local boat club as well as being a popular bathing beach.
PicturesqueThree CliffsBayat the sea ward end of a wooded valley complete with castle, sand dunes and stepping stones over the stream is probably one of Gower’s best known and most photographed beaches, popular with bathers, water sport enthusiasts and the rock climbers who cling precariously to the steep cliffs the over looking part of the bay.
Oxwichis another easy access bay popular with boat owners, and with its sheltered position a haven for wind surfers, waters ski-ing sailing and snorkelling.
CaswellandLanglandBays much closer to the city of Swansea are hugely popular and do get very busy in the summer mainly due to easy access and proximity to the centre of population.
Llangenithbeach is the Mecca for water sport enthusiasts and bathers alike good road access, surf school, miles of golden sands, nearby café .
